It is my pleasure to announce that Pat Rau has rejoined the foundation as a volunteer Senior Advisor in the area of environment. The environment has always been a passion of hers and for over ten years she held the position of Program Officer in the Environment where she mainly focused on oceans and marine issues. Pat has returned after taking a few years off and she is working with Michele to create a docket of grant opportunities around forest resiliency. Join me in welcoming Pat Rau to this new position!
The Foundation welcomes new faces and changes to our organization starting January 2021.
First, Joe Goodman will be keeping his title as Chairman of the Board but he is stepping aside as President so that the next generation can assume a greater role.
Michele Goodman will be assuming the role of President & CEO and Eric Wan will be our new Treasurer & Secretary.
We are excited to announce that Susan Kenney, a 15-year volunteer program officer with the foundation, has accepted a board position with us. As part of this transition she will relinquish her program officer work to others.
And we are thrilled to announce that Andrea Vanessa Castillo has agreed to join us as a volunteer program officer in the area of Education. Andrea's experience as an intern at WorldOregon (an internship that our foundation funded!) and DEI knowledge will be extremely valuable in moving our work forward.

When the COVID-19 "stay in place" orders were made, the Foundation responded by converting all 2019 grant awards to general operating support. If your organization requires an email authorizing the conversion, please contact email@example.com. In addition, the Foundation is showing flexibility with 2020 grant awards. Most 2020 grant awards will be made for general operating support although organizations are applying for project/program support. In addition, grants awarded in the Education focus have two years to spend out their grant award. We are also now implementing a 30-minute video or phone call in lieu of a written grant report, just ask Michele to schedule this.
Our grants for 2019 have all been awarded, you will find a full list of recipients on our website. Starting in 2020, we will be awarding grants in the area of Environment in our Spring grant cycle and our grants in Education will be awarded in our Fall grant cycle. This shift or swap of focuses between the grant cycles allows our internship grantees the ability to start advertising their paid internships earlier. We are also changing our focus slightly in the Health & Human Services category so stay tuned for an update on our website before the end of this year.
On November 2nd, the board of directors met and awarded a total of $90,000 to nonprofits in the areas of Environment and Health & Human Services. For the first time in our history, we made multi-year commitments (two-year commitments) to all of our applicants in the Environment focus area. Our website will be updated soon with a list of nonprofits who received grants in this particular cycle.
We have updated our website to implement a simpler grant application process for nonprofits who have received grants from us in recent years. The good news is that if you have received a grant from us recently then you may not need to submit a grant proposal but instead you will be asked to submit short answers to a questionnaire. Our LOI process is generally the same. Please don't hesitate to send us questions if something isn't clear or send us feedback if something on our website isn't working properly, we'll take your input and fix issues as soon as possible!
