2021 Grants Awarded
2021 Funding Focuses:
- Arts & Culture: The Foundation recognizes that performing arts organizations were hit especially hard by the pandemic and nonprofits have seen their revenue stream disappear due to lost ticket sales and subscribers. The Foundation will award a small number of $10,000 general operating support grants to classical music (rooted in the western culture) nonprofits working to stabilize their finances, build back their subscribers and expand their virtual offerings. Priority will be given to nonprofits that have outreach programs in underserved communities.
- Environment: The Foundation will focus on supporting forest resiliency to mitigate the effects of climate change through a small number of two-year grants for wildfire recovery and prevention. Priority will be given to forest management, restoration, and planning efforts that increase biodiversity or protect our water sources in geographies that have been hit or are at a high risk of being impacted by wildfires. Grant awards will be in the range of $10,000 to $15,000 per year.
- Education: The Foundation intends to award grants in the $5,000 to $8,000 range for paid internships at nonprofits for college undergraduate and/or graduate students (grants distributed in calendar year 2021 may be utilized for calendar year 2022 internships as needed). These internships must provide an above minimum wage stipend. The internship experience should include enrichment opportunities which should include skill building, visibility into nonprofit management, peer networking, professional seminars, capstone project/report, etc. Priority will be given to internships that recruit using a DEI lens. Average size grants in this area of focus are $5,000-$8,000 per internship. You are welcome to request funding for more than one internship in an application. Please note that grant recipients who received awards from us in this focus area each year for the last 3 consecutive years (2018, 2019, 2020) are not eligible for a grant in 2021. You will be eligible to reapply in 2022.
- Health & Human Services: Due to the pandemic, seniors are struggling more than ever with social isolation and nonprofits are pivoting to provide support in this area. The Foundation will award one-year grants to nonprofits in support of innovative programs that address senior social isolation. Examples include: virtual case management and home health visits, intergenerational programs that engage homebound seniors, and technology training classes or support for seniors. Grants will be awarded in the range of $5,000 to $10,000.
